Lonely Echo

Lonely Echo
By Nomar Knight

I sit in solitude
Waiting for a sign
That I'm not forgotten

The sound of rocking
Back and forth
Keeps me company

A starless night
Tries to muffle
My mourning cries

Cold breeze whips by
Vague whispers caress
Awaking curiosity

I lean closer to the edge
Where heartache rules
Listening for your voice

I could barely hear
You calling my name
As teardrops fall

With pounding dreams
And outstretched hope
I rise to praise the miracle

But when sounds sling back
A deadly dose strikes
And I collapse again

Left to a merciless fate
I relive the agony
Of this lonely echo

Lost on Isolation Road

Lost on Isolation Road
By Nomar Knight

No matter what choice I make
Life pulls me to Isolation Road
It snakes through darkness
Freezing air takes hold
Too late to fight it
Can't break the mode

First time swirling wind
Displayed my mistakes
Like a naked exhibitionist
My innocence did break
No one to comfort me
Drowning sorrow in a lake

When last I haunted Isolation Road
Pavement melted on a whim
Encased my essence in muck
Making prospects grim
Yet I tried to chip free
But reality grew dim

The sum of my choices sent me here
Now my heart grows cold
Zest for life entrapped in chains
Drowning while decisions get old
Surrounded by fear
Lost on Isolation Road

Buried in an Ice Casket

Buried in an Ice Casket

Buried in an Ice Casket
            By Nomar Knight

I feel as though I’m stuck inside a giant block of ice.  The works that I need to write are dangling around me.  While they’re somewhat recognizable, most of them are like huge, obscure placards.  Desire seems to be escaping my soul, much like air slowly let out of a balloon.  My isolated surroundings have frozen my feelings.  I fear that I’m turning into a cold monster incapable of rationalizing in favor of mankind.  Life is getting to the point I no longer care to be briefed about the world since too much violence and greed have scarred all in its vicinity.  To hell with news!
If only somehow, my focus could return.  Many projects need to be completed and a few of them have deadlines.  The story, “Bitten,” is one I want to submit by the end of the month to an anthology.  At last it has an ending, but now the real fun begins—the rewrite!  Then there’s “The Monster Men”, which is a fun story only I find myself asking, “Why do they do it?”  Perhaps a psychologist can tell me why monsters do the things they do.  If those creatures did normal things, like kill or maim, but no, they’re quirky thieves.  And finally, editing needs to be completed on Burning Love along with the artwork for the book cover before I go completely insane.  Once I get those things done, then I may go back to Darkness Roams, my supernatural thriller novel.  I miss my characters.
So you may ask, what has me feeling this way?  I recently moved.  I live alone which may be a writer’s dream come true.  I answer only to myself.  I run things my way and the burden of everything hangs on my shoulders.  All of these are good things, but then there’s the incredible isolation which once I get the place wired for internet, should ease off a bit.
I guess it’s all about getting used to the changes that occur in our lives.  Being a bit psychic, I expected these changes to happen, but now I must find a way to chip out of the ice and embrace my current opportunity.  Perhaps, in time, I’ll be able to sculpt a masterpiece out of my own life and at last find happiness.
Catch you on the dark side!

10 Ways to Slip the Talons of Depression

10 Ways to Slip the Talons of Depression

10 Ways to Slip the Talons of Depression
By Nomar Knight

We humans are social creatures.  For some of us, the need for isolation is as refreshing as a cool summer breeze.  However, one must be careful not to eliminate all ties with others.  The healthy human being appreciates having someone to share their experiences with and in general, looks forward to establishing emotional connections with at least one other person.
While passion helps keep our drive to live at an accelerated rate, despair serves to extinguish any desire towards union.  Instead of pushing loneliness away, the solemn soul discovers a sense of nourishment inside the walls of pity.  Darkness, sadness and self-loathing consume the depressed soul for any instance something doesn’t work in their favor, the feeling of being punished overwhelms them to a point they feel suffocated by life.
Just how do we avoid being gripped by the talons of negative passion such as depression?  We must at once look to establish or reestablish relationships.  However, if you are surrounded by negativity or misery, breaking the cycle of despair becomes extremely challenging.  Do try and spend time with someone that can be a positive influence.  Here are ten tips for reaching out and building relationships.

10 tips for reaching out and building relationships

  1. Talk to one person about your feelings.
  2. Help someone else by volunteering.
  3. Have lunch or coffee with a friend.
  4. Ask a loved one to check in with you regularly.
  5. Accompany someone to the movies, a concert, or a small get-together.
  1. Call or email an old friend.
  2. Go for a walk with a workout buddy.
  3. Schedule a weekly dinner date.
  4. Meet new people by taking a class or joining a club.
  5. Confide in a counselor, therapist, or clergy member.

DON’T LET DEPRESSION SUFFOCATE YOUR PASSION FOR LIFE.

Talk to someone and get your life back on the right track.

See you on the lighter side of darkness.
