Resilient Dream by Ramon Flores

Resilient Dream
by Ramon Flores

Mad, you say; are we
To chase dreams long begotten?
Steel wings which can not fly
Branded souls ne'er forgotten

You tendered Holy verse
Pointed fingers of mighty shame
Screamed that we were cursed
Ignited tears with burdened flame

Critiqued our sordid ways
Ignored our civil rights
By God, you claimed the days
Cloaked truths in blackened nights

Could it be we are the same
Searching for a better life
Wild dreams from which we came
Mother Earth, our common wife

Preached words of peace and hope
Blessed millions across the seas
By eve, you hung a rope
Despite our haunted pleas

Tonight, we stand and fight
So listen; to our vigorous cry
We pray with all our might
For the dream that will not die
