Shall We Dance?

Shall We Dance

Okay I'll let you all in on a little secret. Back in the day, anyone who watched me dance compared me to the talented, John Travolta.  While I did not seek out a career in the arts, I did enjoy losing myself in music on a dance floor.  A dear friend asked me recently if my readers knew this about me.  Well, now you do.

As a result of a special virtual reunion, I dedicate tonight's poem to a girl I helped break out of her shell.  I recalled her lips telling me no, but her eyes revealed she wished to be free and after some gentle prodding, she came out of her shell.  The young girl is now a beautiful, married woman and the inspiration behind my latest poem.  Thank you Fung Lee Tam-Blumenthal for being my friend and for providing me with memories that will last a lifetime.

Shall We Dance?
By Nomar Knight

When I guided you through awkward steps
Your worried eyes grew oh so wide
Counting through numbered reps
You searched for a place to hide

It wasn't long before our eyes met
And we floated on clouds of joy
A few more paces and you'd be set
In your arms with your first boy

Shall we dance until the music stops
Or until someone throws us out
Fluid our movement with happy hops
Lovely ballerina you did sprout

Though now we dance miles apart
To our own rhythm and beat
You never abandoned my heart
To dance again would be neat

Who knows perhaps our time will come
For destiny holds the cards we can't see
When we stroll and we stride as one
Thank you my darling for dancing with me

Feel free to listen to one of the many songs we danced on that sweet night.

And to Mr. Blumenthal, take good care of my friend. I wish you and your family all the best.

  1. It wasn't only your dancing, it was the whole package, the hair, the tight polyester pants, the shoes, and the way you carried yourself. You didn't have, as I recall, the polyester shirts with the buttons opened down to your navel nor the gold chains.

Thank you for the wonderful memories on that fateful Hallooween night.
