Punched by Love by Heishalee Aviles

Punched by Love
By Heishalee Aviles

Punched by the sting of Love
A cobra’s venom surged through me
Illusions paralyzed by ignorance
Crushing a flower’s innocence

Our encounter left a bitter taste
Upon my scorched tongue
Even as I choked in silent sobs
Emotions drowned out
By splashes of reality

Obsession restricted time’s chance
To appease the soul
Like a silent thief
You stopped the moment
From growing into a wondrous garden

My rainbow butterflies died
Reemerging as bats of loneliness
Fluttered through desolate night
Awareness its stilted child

Honey eyes sprang forth
Revealing glimmers of a haunted past
Leaving shadows of ghosts lost
Entangled in the world of you

Poor choices against the grain
Shattered all hopes
If left unnurtured
Love evaporates
Forever sealing our fate

Hope is born from the darkest halls
New days shine light
This butterfly will rise again
And you will be left remiss

For this angel sings
The glory of a new Knight
Arrogance sealed your fate
These lips you will never kiss

  1. Way to go, Heisalee! For being a mere 16 years old, she shows vast potential. I love the striking imagery of this poem and the somber emotion. Very well done!
