Swimming For Your Love
By Nomar Knight
In your absence I swim in the river of dreams
Struggling to keep my head high
Negotiating waves of torment
Through burning desire
The faster I press onward
The deeper I sink in murky waters
Shadows of discontent
Lurk in my mind
Fear crawls up my spine
A tumultuous awareness awakens
Will I be adequate
Could I make you happy
Splashes of images burn my skin
A fading memory of your face
Slips beyond my reach
Like gobs of water choking desire
Through waves of daily endeavors
I learn to hide my sorrow
The tides of time sweep hardship
Yet the hope of us keeps me afloat
Solidarity gives me strength
So I pummel through while hearing
Fierce cries spread asunder
I mustn't stop now
The simplest sign of your existence
Creates ripples of possibility
Carrying my heart to a promise
Worthy of the glory of you
Sweet whispers edge me on
As I watch defeat drown in the past
Can't stop fighting for us
Won't stop--swimming for your love
